Winter is Here

Winter has arrived. Or rather, it feels like it’s been here for quite a while. Every morning when I open my eyes, the air feels chilly, and as soon as I open the window, the biting winter breeze hits my face. It’s so hard to leave the warm embrace of the blanket.

On my way to work, I step out in full winter gear—a thick padded coat, scarf, and gloves—yet my fingertips still feel icy. Everyone on the street seems to be huddling up, walking briskly toward their destinations. At times like this, I wonder if people, too, wish they could hibernate during winter.

And yet, winter has its own unique charm. A hot cup of cocoa in a warm café, curling up under a blanket to watch a good movie, or eating street food like spicy tteokbokki with friends on a freezing day—these are the moments that feel extra special because it’s winter.

Even as I find myself constantly saying, “It’s so cold,” I can’t help but be drawn to the peculiar beauty of this season. Soon enough, these freezing days will pass, and I’ll probably find myself sprawled in front of a fan, complaining about how unbearably hot it is.

So for now, I think I’ll just embrace this winter. From the sensation of icy hands to the sight of frosty breath escaping from behind my mask, there’s something undeniably unique about it all that makes winter worth savoring.
